THE BANK OF TAMPA APPOINTS MICHAEL FENCEL TO BRANDON DIVISION ADVISORY BOARD
Richard H. Eatman, Chairman of The Bank of Tampa’s Brandon Division Advisory Board, recently announced the appointment of Mike Fencel to the Brandon Division Advisory Board. Fencel is the Chief Executive Officer of Brandon Regional Hospital.
Fencel joined Brandon Regional Hospital in September 1997, arriving from West Palm Beach where he had served as Chief Executive Officer for Columbia Hospital. He has more than 28 years of health care administration experience in facilities throughout Florida, Texas and Missouri.
Fencel earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Health Planning and Administration from Penn State University, followed by a Masters of Business Administration in Health Care Management from Boston University. He began his career in health care administration at Brandon Regional Hospital in the early 1980’s. Fencel has been instrumental in obtaining a state Certificate of Need (CON) approval for a cardiac surgery program, which opened in June 2002. He also oversaw the largest expansion in the hospital’s history, completed in December 2003, which included new cardiac surgery facilities and added an additional 50 beds, bringing the hospital’s bed total to 327. Forty more beds were then added in 2008, bringing the hospital’s bed total to 407. Other initiatives have included a $7 million emergency department expansion; the opening of the hospital’s first outpatient Diagnostic & Rehabilitation Center; a major expansion of the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU); and the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery Center, which offers a non-invasive surgery alternative for the treatment of cancerous and non-cancerous tumors and lesions.
The hospital was designated a 2005 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence by Health Grades; has been named a Top 100 Hospital in America five separate times; has been named a Top 100 Intensive Care Unit by Solucient; and has been designated as Best Run Hospital by the Florida Medical Business Journal.
Throughout his career, Fencel has been active in numerous civic and professional organizations. He is the former Chairman of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Trustees of the Florida Hospital Association. He is the current President of the Brandon Rotary Club and is actively involved on the boards of the Brandon Outreach Clinic and Brandon Community Foundation.
